"Water bugs" is the common name for the insects such as cockroaches, which are found near the water sources. They are attracted to food and water, so the best way to prevent them is remove the remains of food and standing water always. Read on to learn how to get rid of water bugs.

Part one. Cleaning

1. Walk around the house, inside it and look for a place, where can lie the remains of a meal or standing water. Do not forget to take away the food for pets. It lures the cockroaches and other insects. Do not put too much food for your pets, because sometimes your cat or dog can`t eat it all, and you need to wash their bowl everytime after using it.

2. Do not forget to put the food in the refrigerator. If a particular product of food is not suitable for storage in the refrigerator, place it in a hermetic container.

3. Throw away the leftover food in the bin with a tight lid. Open bins and piles of the garbage will provide a lot of food for the bugs, and it will be an excellent refuge for them. During the invasion of the insects, take out the garbage every day.

4. Clean the house and the yard. Water bugs live in the places which are rarely cleaned. Throw out the newspapers and containers of food each week. Make sure that  the containers with food are tightly closed. Discard the old cardboard boxes. This is the one of the favorite habitats of the bugs.

5. Look for signs of the availability of standing water inside and outside the home. The bowls with water, the water in the sheet, the plant saucers, and puddles of the  rainwater are the favorable breeding places for the water bugs. Close by the lids the  containers with water. While is raining, turn the buckets, pots and other containers.

6. Clean and disinfect the kitchen. Do not forget about the kitchen appliances such as toaster, food processor, juicer, grill, etc., which may have the pieces of food.

Part two. Change your habits

1. Eat only in the one room. Forbid your children to eat in their rooms and in a front of TV.

2. Vacuum the dining room regularly. So you reduce the amount of the food pieces which can move to the other rooms. Wash the blankets and carpets with a soap and water at least once a year.

Part Three. The renovation of the house

1. Repair the leaky faucets inside and outside the home. Do not forget about them and darn as soon as possible. Having the access to the source of water, the cockroaches and water bugs can survive for a very long time.

2. Inspect the home for the bad set of the doors and windows. Repair or replace them,  so bugs could not enter to the house.

3. Seal the holes in the concrete, such that you stop the collecting of the water there.

4. Seal the holes in the insulation and walls. Thus, you do not give the chance for the water bugs to get inside and create a nest.

5. Put the nets for insects on the doors and windows. Open them to circulate the air in the damp places. The water bugs prefer damp, so your house must be aired regularly and kept dry.

Part Four. The natural pesticides

1. Find the location of the insect`s nest. So you can quickly get rid of the problems with water bugs.

2. Pour into the drain 0.4-0.9 liters of the distilled white vinegar. Do not forget about the dishwasher, bath, toilet and sink.

3. If you notice that your pool is infected with the cockroaches, water bugs, pour into it a few tablespoons of the liquid dishwashing detergent and turn off the pump for pumping water in the pool. Wait until they will die and float to the surface. After a  couple hours pull them with a net for the pool. Turn on the pump.

4. Prepare a mixture of the crushed sugar and baking soda, 1: 1 ratio. Sprinkle with it the habitat of the insects. Wait until the roaches will die, and then remove them.

Part Five. The chemical pesticides

1. Deal with a boric acid the area around the nest of the bugs. A boric acid penetrate into their bodies through their legs and will kill them. The water bugs will bypass the  large concentrations of the borax, so pour it very thinly.

2. Use the traps for the cockroaches, water bugs. A concentrated dose of poison is used in these traps. The water bugs penetrate the box and die inside, allowing to remove them safely.

3. Call an exterminator. If your home is full of the water bugs, you may have to resort to the more aggressive actions. To do this you'll need to get out of the house, and after the pest control, you must clean the kitchen and other rooms.
